Tonto National Monument

Features two authentic Salado cliff dwellings, occupied during the 13th through the 15th centuries. There is a 1/2-mile trail that takes visitors to the Lower Cliff Dwelling Area, and a longer 3-mile round-trip trail that leads to the Upper Cliff Dwelling, open only during the summer months and by reservation. The visitors center provides a good introduction to the area and the people that once occupied its cliffs, and it is located just off the highway about three miles east of the town of Roosevelt.
