Clarkdale is considered the gateway to the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Area in Verde Valley, found in north central Arizona. The town was designed and built from a unified master plan, with a design in mind. Today, it is recognized as an Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is host to the Verde Canyon Railroad, a four-hour round trip through the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Area.
