Safford is best known to be a prime spot to see the stars. A number of observatories are located here, and streetlights even have low output for better viewing. Mount Graham is home to the Mount Graham International Observatory, the Large Binocular Telescope, Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, as well as the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope.
